Robert Coro
Robert E. Coro was born in Waterville on Sept. 13, 1948, to parents Maynard and Thelma Coro. He and his siblings, Carl, Judy and John, grew up and attended schools and church in Clinton. Bob graduated from Clinton High School in 1966.
Bob proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Petty Officer E-4 in country during the Vietnam war with the Da Nang Main Security from October 1967 until May 1969. He was a dedicated worker.
He was married to his wife, Cheryl, for 40 years and they had four children: Robert, Amy, Christopher and Erin.
With his wife Cheryl, he owned and operated The Pine Tree Diner in Clinton for a while. He later retired from the Guilford Railway after 38 years, working his way up from Brakeman to Train Master.
Bob was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. He donated to those, as well as to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and he also brought school supplies, hats and mittens to Clinton Elementary every year.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, having meals together, going to the Purple Cow, watching TV and taking trips to the ocean and lighthouses. He was a fan of playing and watching sports. His favorite teams were the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and New England Patriots. He also loved to read and sing and make people laugh.
Bob passed away with his loving family by his side on July 13, 2017, at the VA Togus Springs Hospice unit in Augusta, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
